Performing Artists Legal Clinic

Thank you for visiting the Performing Artists Legal Clinic (PALC), a collaboration with Arts BC, and the Vines Art Festival, funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage.  PALC is an in-depth web resource with a host of questions and answers on a variety of contractual, human rights and other employment issues faced by performing artists.

Whether engaged as a performer, dancer, musician or engaging other performing artists in your own work, there are a lot of things to think about to protect yourself, your collaborators and your audience. We’re here to help ensure that the sector is a healthy and safe working environment for everyone, whether unionized or not.

As this website is primarily aimed at non-union/unaffiliated performing artists, those with union affiliations are encouraged to contact their respective unions who are best suited to deal with your questions and needs. ACTRA members, go here. UBCP members, go here. AF of M members, go here. IATSE, go here.

Click on the buttons below to read our frequently asked questions and check back often as our resources expand. If you are unable to find an answer to your question or require more specific support, click here to find our intake form. Please note that the PALC is unable to address questions related to immigration, tax law, family law, real estate, tenancy, commercial leases, wills & estates, and criminal law.
